Global Fiberglass Market Transforms: New Energy and Electronics Drive Structural Shift

The global fiberglass market is undergoing a significant transition, moving from cyclical fluctuations to structural growth, fueled by rising demand from renewable energy and high-end electronics. According to industry analysts, the market is projected to grow from $93.9 billion in 2025 to $121.6 billion by 2031, reflecting a CAGR of 4.40%. This shift is characterized by optimized supply-demand dynamics and accelerated adoption in high-tech applications.

A clear indicator of this trend is the increased volume of international inquiries for specific fiberglass mat products, particularly chopped strand mats, thin mats, and mats for Resin Transfer Molding (RTM) applications, with common weights of 300gsm, 450gsm, and 500-600gsm . These materials are essential for creating strong, lightweight composite parts.

 01. Supply-Demand Rebalancing and Price Recovery

The fiberglass supply-side landscape has improved markedly. By mid-2025, China’s total fiberglass capacity reached approximately 8.7 million tons, with 2024 output hitting 7.56 million tons and apparent consumption of 5.64 million tons. This slowdown in capacity expansion, coupled with industry consolidation, has helped rebalance the market.
A sustained price recovery is underway. From January to April 2025, the average price of 2400tex direct rovings increased 20.4% year-on-year, while SMC roving and G75 electronic yarn rose 28.0% and 22.4%, respectively. Export markets also rebounded, with China’s fiberglass and product exports exceeding 2 million tons in 2024, up 12.5% year-on-year.

02. Three Emerging Sectors Driving Growth
  • Wind Power:The trend toward longer wind turbine blades (exceeding 100 meters) has spurred demand for high-modulus fiberglass. For instance, China Jushi’s E9 fiberglass boasts a modulus exceeding 100 GPa, meeting the performance requirements of next-generation blades.
  • New Energy Vehicles (NEVs): Lightweighting efforts in NEVs have increased the use of fiberglass-reinforced plastics in battery casings and structural components. By 2025, the average NEV is expected to use 247 kg of fiberglass per vehicle.
  • Electronics-Grade Fiberglass: The rise of AI servers and high-frequency PCBs has driven demand for ultra-thin (<50μm) low-dielectric electronic fabric. AI server motherboards require three times more fiberglass than traditional servers.

03. Technology Innovation and Green Transition

Product performance continues to advance. High-modulus fiberglass now achieves an elastic modulus of ≥86 GPa, far exceeding standard E-glass (∼72 GPa). Chongqing Polycomp’s ECR fiberglass offers 5 times the acid resistance of non-alkali yarn, making it suitable for chemical pipeline linings.
Production processes are also becoming smarter and greener. China Jushi’s 600k-ton furnace uses AI to optimize combustion parameters, reducing energy consumption by 12%. Shandong Fiberglass’s AI quality inspection system achieves 99.5% defect detection accuracy.
The EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), which may add €50–80/ton to export costs, is accelerating the adoption of low-carbon technologies like electric furnaces and hydrogen combustion.

04. Outlook: Sustainable Growth Ahead

Looking ahead to 2026, the fiberglass industry is expected to maintain its positive trajectory. Emerging applications in hydrogen storage and photovoltaic framing are set to expand rapidly.
By 2030, China’s fiberglass demand is forecast to reach 6.54 million tons, driven by NEVs, wind power, 5G, and AI robotics. The industry is shifting from a “capacity expansion–price war” cycle to a “technology-driven–high-end–green” growth track.
